Aramis The Bastion Shiraz 2020
TASTING NOTE
The Bastion displays all the hallmarks of our unique vineyard, with presence and power. Deep and Dark purple. The nose is rich dark, with a ripe berry and plum fruit with earthy toasted spice and hints of dark chocolate. The wine is aromatic, rich, and complex. The palate is full-bodied, with rich dark blackberry and plum fruits, complimented by earthy characters and toasted fruit and oak spice. The wine is well-rounded and generous and has a fine and lingering tannin structure.
THE VINEYARDS
Fruit for ‘The Bastion’ came from two rows on the top block of a steep 64-acre vineyard, located in the southern foothills of the McLaren Vale region. Its unique position, just 2km away from the coast of the Gulf St Vincent, allows the vines to benefit from a maritime climate with cooling afternoon sea breezes coming in from the southwest. The top block of the vineyard combines poor soil and a high clay content which limit water retention and allow moisture levels to be controlled through drip irrigation. These are the perfect conditions to produce top-quality Syrah, creating fruit undiluted by water - small and incredibly intense in flavour.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Sourced from a single vineyard within the Estate. Harvested when flavour ripe and fermented on skins with gentle pump overs twice daily; for a period of 7-8 days, then pressed and transferred to barrel for Malo-lactic fermentation and maturation.
